Features to enhance the accessibility of this site
These features have been provided to help make our site as accessible as possible to as many people as possible
- All images have been given appropriate alternative text (fully implemented)
- Menus items have been associated to access keys meaning the site can be navigated using only a keyboard. Access keys are identical in all pages. This function will best work with the Caps Lock key turned on. Prefer also not using the Num Pad keys.
Accesskeys work by pressing alt (Windows) or ctrl (Mac) and then the chosen accesskey (Internet Explorer users also need to press enter at the end).
Access key 0 points to the main content of each page, thus allowing users to skip the navigation menu.
Access key 1 points to the ’Home Page’ which is also the page describing the Encyclopedia’s project.
Access key 2 points to the ’About Us’ page.
Access key 3 points to the ’Partners’ page.
Finally pressing Access key 4 will give you access to the ’Accessibility statement’. - The site has been tested to ensure that it is accessible in a wide range of browsers.
Visual Design
- Cascading Style Sheets have been used to control the presentation of pages and properly structured markup has been used for content (fully implemented)
- If stylesheets are not supported or are turned off, information on the site can still be accessed and read (fully implemented)
- Relative font sizes are used, which allows users to resize text as needed (partially implemented)
