There are three types of documents available on the website: Chronological Indexes, Case Studies, Scholarly Reviews and Theoretical Papers. A numbers of items such as biographical notes are linked to these documents. These items are accessible when clicking on “Going further” links. You also have access to a series of words explained within the Glossary.
You can either navigate using the world and continent maps or directly consult a specific type of document. When using the maps, clicking on a given country gives you a direct access to chronological indexes. You can then access to linked documents such as Case Studies, Scholarly Reviews or Theoretical Papers.
Three types of countries appear on the maps. Underlined countries indicate available chronological indexes. Non-clickable countries indicate that, to this date, there is no known record of mass violence for the XXth century. Finally some clickable countries present a “waiting page”, indicating that the document you are looking for is being written and will be online shortly (see the 6 steps procedure). Please note that maps are not authoritative and do not endorse any political view.
For any given country, “Other Resources” gives you access to other available types of documents linked to this particular country. For example, if you are reading France’s chronological index on the Repression and Occupation in occupied France, 1940-44, you may want to consult as well a case study about The Drancy Camp, a scholarly review or biographical notes, for example that of Pierre Laval, Philippe Pétain or Otto Abetz, available by clicking on “Going Further”.
Every document online has followed a strictly defined six steps process that guarantees the utmost academic standard of the OEM website. These steps are as follow:
From one to three, the number of stars indicates the liability of the information given in the document.
Clicking on the “Print” button offers a printer-friendly page format allowing easy printing.
Cliking on “Pdf” allows you to download a Adobe Acrobat PDF version of any document present on the website.
The “Send” option, offers you the opportunity to send the article being consulted to any e-mail address.
The official language of the website is English. Therefore, all documents are in English. However, when a document has been translated from another language into English, then the original version will be downloadable in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
